Building a company.
Changing a skyline.
In 1912, Arthur H. Neumann started a building/contracting company in the heart of Des Moines, Iowa. His three brothers-Walter, Harold, and Oscar-joined the firm in 1932. Working together, this family-run firm would come to create the cornerstone buildings of Iowa's capital city.
Neumann's first generation projects:
- Iowa's first skyscraper: The Equitable Building
- Iowa State University Memorial Union
- Child's Hall at Des Moines College
The next generation of Neumann builders continued the family tradition with more noteworthy projects that changed the local skyline. In 1976, the firm incorporated as Neumann Brothers, Inc.
- Veteran's Memorial Auditorium
- American Republic Insurance
- Ruan Center
- Des Moines Marriott Hotel
- Des Moines Botanical Center
Today's staff includes third-generation family Neumann's plus non-family members who bring diverse expertise to the table. Modern showpiece projects include:
- Employer's Mutual Casualty Company
- The Iowa Speedway
- Camp Dodge Armed Forces Readiness Center
- Restoration of the Iowa State Capitol
