Neumann Brothers and Grinnell dedicate latest project partnership - June 21, 2010

Newton, IA - On June 5, 2010 Neumann Brothers, Inc. and Grinnell College celebrated the project dedication ceremony for Grinnell's athletic and recreation center.

Named after the late alumnus, trustee and publishing executive, the Charles Benson Bear '39 Recreation and Athletic Center, once completed in August, will mark the third major project Neumann Brothers has completed for Grinnell in recent years.

Neumann Brothers President and CEO Marshall Linn said the company was thrilled at the opportunity to partner with Grinnell College again. "This was an exciting opportunity to team with Grinnell on such an important and complex project," he said. "To see the project come full circle today at this ceremony is a true testament to Neumann Brothers' labor force."

The Bear Recreation and Athletic Center seamlessly connects first- and second-phase construction projects underground. The first phase of the center, completed in 2005, includes 1,250-seat Darby Gymnasium, home of the Pioneer men's and women's basketball teams and volleyball team; an auxiliary practice gymnasium; and a fitness center.

The second phase includes the 500-seat natatorium with 50-meter pool and movable bulkheads and the six-lane 200-meter field house with seating for 400. The entire Bear Center is expected to join Grinnell's growing list of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified buildings.
